How to use the forum

On this page, you will learn how to use the JMacForum.

  • Step 1: Register
Click “Register” and read the terms and rules. Click “I Agree”. Next, you will find some fields that you will have to fill in. Type a username and your e-mail address. Your password will be sent to that e-mail address. Fill in your birthday and then leave the rest of the form as it is. You can now login with your username and password that was sent to your e-mail. Update: to fight spam, your registration will need approval. We check our forum mailbox daily, so you will be able to enter the forum very soon after your registration!

  • Step 2: Setting your password and personal settings
You are now logged in. You can go to your Control Panel by clicking “User Control Panel”. You can find this link in the header image and just above the list of forums. Click the “Edit Profile” tab and fill in the fields. About the avatar: you can upload an avatar (not bigger than 100×100 pixels) at Tinypic.com, copy the link of your uploaded avatar and paste it in the “Avatar URL:” field.

  • Step 3: Introduce yourself
Go to “Member Introductions”. You will see a list of topics made by members. Click the “new topic” button on the right, above the list of topics. In the subject field, you can type your name or “Hello” or something like that. In the message field, just give us a short impression of who you are. Most people tell us their name, what country they live in and how long they’ve been a fan of Jesse McCartney. Click “Post New Topic” at the bottom. You will be redirected to the topic you just started. People can now leave a response in your topic and welcome you. Congratulations, you just created your first topic and typed
    your first post!

  • Step 4: Posting
Now you have an account and introduced yourself, you can view other people’s topics and leave a response yourself. If you are still in your introduction topic, you will see several links below the header: JMacForum » Jesse McCartney Forum » Member Introductions » {Your Topic Subject}. Click “JMacForum” and you will be back on the home page of the forum.

Scroll down to the category bar that says “Jesse McCartney”. Under that bar are the sections where you can talk about Jesse McCartney with other members. For example, click “News & Gossip”. Members can create topics there when there’s news. The topic at the top is always the latest active topic. Click a topic and read the first post. When you scroll, you will find responses of the other members. At the very bottom of the page, you will find a field where you can type your own response.

Take a look in the other sections and topics and let us know what you think about the subject.

  • Step 5: Creating topics
You already know how to create a topic, but you also need to know where to place a topic. If there’s new candid photos you want to share with the rest of us, you should create a topic in the Photos section. The subject should be something like “New candids: 08/27/2010 Jesse McCartney at my house”. That way, everyone knows what’s inside the topic. If you have a website you want to share, you should create a topic in “Web Area” under the category “Entertainment & Off-Topic”.

This is something that people do wrong alot: creating topics in News & Gossip. If you want to tell us that Jesse’s new album came out, then yes, that’s news and that should be in News & Gossip. But if you want to create a topic about “What do you love most about Jesse?”, then that should be in “General Chat” at the bottom of the forum. Always think about where your topic should be.

Why is that so important, you ask? Imagine this. Someone created a topic about a very cool website that has all kinds of pictures, but you don’t remember what it was, so you go on the forum to look for it. A website should be in Web Area. That’s where you want to find that topic. After searching for hours, it turns out the topic was in “Photos”.
Yes, it was about a website with pictures, but the subject was the website and not the pictures. Bottom line: if you want to show us pictures you found on a site, then post that in Photos. If you want to show us a website, then post that in Web Area. If you’re not sure where to place a topic, just send a U2U message to either Christine or Indira.

  • Step 6: Sending U2U Messages
You can send private messagers to members on the forum. In the header image, there’s a link to your U2U center. Click U2U and a pop up will appear. (You can also go there by going back to your User Control Panel and clicking the “U2U Messenger” tab.) Click the “new U2U” button and and fill in the fields.
If you received a U2U back, just click on the message in your inbox. Below the message are some options. To reply, click the “reply” radio button and click “Submit Changes”. You can now type a reply and send it.

If you have any questions, just send us a U2U. Our usernames are Shanice and Indira.
